Siem Reap, Cambodia – Part 2

The second day at Siem Reap was spent to explore the temples. We had decided to visit 3 main temples only. After having a quick breakfast, we met with our tut-tut driver and off we go to the first temple. Which is the Bayon temple. Along the way, we saw how simple lives can be.

As we approach the entrance to the temples, at the south gate, we saw massive tourists stopping by to take some photos, well, we did too.

We continued our journey to Bayon Temple. Bayon Temple is a unique temple as it shows the creative genius and inflated ego of Cambodia’s legendary king, Jayavarman VII. It is a place with many corridors, stairs and a collection of 54 gothic towers decorated with 216 coldly smiling enormous face of the king. The best time to visit Bayon temple is just right after sunrise, as the sun rays with light up face after face.

After Bayon Temple, we moved our to Ta Prohm, which is also known as Tomb Raider Temple as a scene from Angelina Jolie’s Tomb Raider was film at the temple. Ta Prohm is a temple of towers, closed courtyards and narrow corridors. Many of this passages has been block by jumbled piles of carved stones which has been dislodged by the roots of the tree. Ta Prohm is unique as the temple has been swallowed by the jungle and I was awe struck by the force of nature.

Ta Prohm was surprissingly small, once done, we head out to the majestic of AngKor Wat Temple itself.  Angkor Wat is the largest and the most breathtaking of the monuments in Angkor and it is widely believed to be the largest religious structure in the world.
